Rail’s ability to support transformational economic and housing growth in Cambridge and the East of England is being constrained by bottlenecks in the network - limiting the frequency of passenger services between neighbouring cities, towns and airports.
That’s why at UKREiiF earlier this week (21/05) England's Economic Heartland were delighted to promote a series of improvements which would unlock half hourly rail services in the region, while also cutting 12 miles’ worth of HGVs from the region’s roads every day by allowing more freight to be carried by rail. Addressing capacity in and around Ely is the foundation of these improvements. We will continue to work with partners including Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority, Transport East, local authorities, MPs, businesses, industry and operators to make the strongest case for them.
